ASK!

NJABR ASK! Program - Animals, Science and Know-How!
All You Ever Wanted to Know About Animal Care

ASK! stands for Animals, Science, and Know-How! - A collaborative community effort to support teachers who believe that live animals in the classroom can make a significant contribution to education. Designed to introduce the fundamentals of animal science in both formal and informal academic settings, ASK! firmly believes that maintaining live animals in educational settings must be appropriately planned and supervised. Furthermore, every consideration must be given to promoting the animal's health and well-being and protecting the health and safety of students and teachers.

ASK! Animal Care Program Goals:
1. Foster respect for all forms of life and appreciation for the similarities and differences among species.
2 Encourage the establishment of "living environments" in schools that advance learning about animals.
3. Provide educational opportunities through age-appropriate animal care activities both inside and outside the classroom.
4. Offer on-going assistance to schools that maintain live animals in the classroom.
5. Encourage the creation of formalized structures within school settings for student-driven oversight of animal welfare.
