Biomedical Research Day

Monday, October 21, 2013 (All day)

On this day, the birthday of Alfred Nobel, we celebrate the central role biomedical research plays in improving human and animal health and acknowledge the many scientists, researchers, doctors, veterinarians, and countless others who make this important work happen.

Such research has increased the lifespan of people in the United States through the development of vaccines, antibiotics, medical devices, treatments, and cures; contributed to the elimination of many epidemic diseases; and offers hope for those living with chronic conditions.  In addition, biomedical research has contributed to the health, well being, and longevity of animals through vaccines and treatments and has helped the prospects of endangered species through the development of artificial reproduction.  Biomedical research offers the best hope for new breakthroughs in detecting and treating diseases in the future and helping people throughout the United States and the world live healthier, longer, and happier lives.
