National Network Contests


The essay and poster contest is for students in grades 6-8, focusing on the benefits of research and the importance of animal models and human clinical trials. A separate awards category is provided for students who are non-native English speakers.

SWAEBR Essay ContestSWAEBR Essay Contest
The Southwest Association for Education in Biomedical Research sponsors an essay contest each spring for high school students. Winners in the Flagstaff, Tucson and Phoenix metropolitan areas receive a paid summer internship, which could range from 6 to 10 weeks, dependent on student and institution schedules, working in a research lab in one of the following institutions: Arizona State University, Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital, Mayo Clinic - Scottsdale, Northern Arizona University, Sun Health Research Institute, or The University of Arizona.
Winners from other high schools in Arizona and New Mexico who may be unable to work in the metropolitan areas receive a cash award of $150.

MSMR Student CompetitionMSMR Student Competition
Middle school or high school student in any New England state, may enter the MSMR Annual Student Competition. The entry can be an Essay, a Poster or a Video!
The challenge is to seek out and report on a recent breakthrough at a New England biomedical research organization, and to make us understand the science and the importance of the work that was done.
Students in grades 7 & 8 compete in the Level 1 competition, while students in grades 9 - 12 compete at Level 2. Winning entries in each Level earn prizes up to $500 and up to $100 for their schools. The annual submission window is from January 15 to April 15th.
